9:30 AM - Inherited Farmland – Financial Planning Implications (Presented by Allan Vyhnalek, Extension Educator, UNL Agricultural Economics)

Inheriting real estate can come with benefits and an abundance of decisions to be made, and inheriting land is no different. For some beneficiaries, they know exactly what they want to do with their new inherited land – sell it, hold onto it, build on it or even lease it. For others, it can be difficult to make a decision, especially if there is an emotional connection with the land or when other family members are involved.  This program will provide attendees with information they can use to help clients sort through the process of deciding how to handle inherited land.

10:30 AM - Financial Planning for Veterans (Presented by David OlneyCare Advocate, Olney & Associates)

Many financial advisors choose to focus on one or demographic segments of the population from which they build their clientele. One important group that often gets overlooked is members of the U.S. military who retire or separate from service. In many cases, these service members have been targeted by predatory lenders and salespeople who often manage to put them deep in debt and destroy their credit scores. Even those who manage their money well are often unprepared for the financial transition that they will face when they enter civilian life. This program will provide attendees with an overview of some special issues and considerations they should take into account when working with military veterans.

11:30 AM - Lunch Buffet (included in all full and half day registrations)

12:30 - 2:30 PM - Afternoon Session
This session offers two hours of CE for CFP, NE & IA Life Insurance, Legal, Accounting and PACE (pending approvals).

12:30 PM - Estate and Financial Planning for Clients Living with Chronic Illness (Presented by Martin Shenkman, CPA, MBA, PFS, AEP, JD)

As your clients are living longer, more are suffering with chronic illnessed or disabilites and their estate plans may be inadequate.  This program will provide you with valuable information that will help you upgrade your planning to help cover these very probably client situations.  You will benefit from learning how to identify and discuss the sensitive issues of chronic illness and disability so clients will come "out of the closet" and you can properly plan for them.  The program also will explore how the various pieces of a traditional estate plan may need to be enhanced with special provisions.

1:30 PM - Planning with Non-Grantor Trusts under TCJA (Presented by Martin Shenkman, CPA, MBA, PFS, AEP, JD

The new federal tax act commonly known as Tax Cut and Jobs Act of 2017 (“TCJA”) provides another wrinkle to traditional asset protection planning.  With the new high exemption levels, clients who had pursued transfers to irrevocable trusts to facilitate estate tax minimization and asset protection planning may not have any estate tax concerns post-TCJA. That might leave the asset transfers having little other non-asset protection justification.  This program will review some new perspectives on post-TCJA trust planning that might provide a solution.
