Meeting/Event Information

General Membership meetings are typically held the third Friday of every other month at Quarry Oaks Golf Club in Ashland, NE. Meetings typically begin between 9:00 AM and 10:00 AM and end by 3:00. Visitors are welcome, however, advance registration is required.

Most meetings provide 4-5 hours of continuing education.

10:00 AM - Never Cut What Can Be Untied: The Collaborative Divorce Option for Couples in Nebraska (Presented by Scott Hahn, Attorney, Koenig|Dunne, PC, LLO)

Collaborative divorce is an alternative method for couples facing divorce, where spouses pledge to resolve all issues without court intervention and focus on settlement with the goal to minimize the negative economic, social, and emotional consequences that families face in the traditional adversarial divorce process. This presentation will explain the framework for this process as well as what legal documents and steps of action are needed. Come learn about a financial professional's role in this process.

11:00 AM - Cybersecurity Update (Presented by Laurie VanderWal, VanderWal Agency)

This presentation will give an overview and general understanding of cyber security protocol and assessment guidelines involving loss of customer data. We will discuss the regulatory environment, risk assessment protocol and notification rules, as well as offer agencies a framework for managing data and assessing compliance issues. Come learn quick tips for administrative, technical and physical data protection.

12:00 PM - Lunch Buffet (included in all full and half day registrations)

1:00 - 4:00 PM - Afternoon Session 
The afternoon session will provide three hours of Nebraska and Iowa INSURANCE ETHICS credits.  We also have applied for Ethics CE credit for Legal and Accounting. PLEASE NOTE:  This program is NOT a CFP® ethics course. The FPA of Nebraska will offer a CFP® ethics course in the first quarter of 2020.

1:00 PM - Privacy, Social Media and the Financial Service Professional (Presented by Laurie VanderWal, VanderWal Agency)

This presentation will provide financial professionals an overview and general understanding of the ethical and legal obligations a professional may face in a variety of situations. The process of evaluating ethical and legal issues then determining a positive outcome will be discussed through a variety of case studies.
