How can a Financial Planner help?

Financial planning involves all kinds of everyday money matters, such as designing a household spending plan, managing credit card bills, choosing insurance policies or refinancing a mortgage. It means setting and reaching goals, now and in the future, to get one’s financial life organized and working. From insurance claims and taxes to paying for children’s education and planning for retirement, an FPA volunteer can help qualified pro bono clients with all kinds of needs.

What services are available?

  • One-on-one pro bono financial planning consultations via phone or virtual meeting
  • Seminars and workshops for staff and clients of not-for-profit partner organizations located in Nebraska:
    • Basic financial literacy
    • Budgeting/creating a spending plan
    • Debt management
    • Building savings and starting to invest
    • Saving for retirement and related topics
  • In-person pro bono financial planning consultations available in conjunction with financial education seminars delivered at the not-for-profit partner organization’s location

Members of the Financial Planning Association® (FPA®) are available to offer pro bono financial planning services to residents of Nebraska and clients or staff of Nebraska-based not-for-profit partner organizations.

FPA volunteers provide one-time, unbiased financial advice to those who, for various reasons, would not otherwise be able to access a paid financial advisory relationship.  Volunteers do not recommend or sell financial products or services while engaged in pro bono activities and are not able to work with pro bono clients on an ongoing basis.

How can I get assistance?

Email us. We focus on clients with little or no assets and incomes at or below 400% of the current federal poverty level (2025 Povery Guidelines - HHS.gov), but these income limits may be waived for clients referred by our non-profit partners and all branches of the deployed military.

Please note that before scheduling a consultation with a pro bono volunteer, we require that all pro bono clients review and complete the following important documents:  Confidential Client Questionnaire, Letter of Engagement and the ProBono Guidelines.
